MobileNuclear lost founding member, Dr. Joe Turnage, with his passing in August, 2024. Joe leaves a lasting legacy at MobileNuclear, and as a friend and colleague, he continues to inspire, guide, and motivate. Dr. Turnage was a senior executive in the competitive power generation industry and founder of two successful consulting companies, who brought over 35 years of experience to MobileNuclear. Throughout his career, Dr. Turnage was actively involved in almost every aspect of the nuclear energy business, from managing asset development and acquisition, to managing profit and loss of a portfolio of power generating plants, to product and service development and marketing, to managing shared service organizations including nuclear engineering and reactor safety analysis, power plant engineering, operations and maintenance, procurement, safety, information technology, and environmental engineering.
Joe served on the Boards of Directors at three large corporations, including Chairman of the Nuclear Advisory Board at General Atomics, Board of Directors at NuScale Power, and Board of Directors at Constellation Energy. He was actively involved in public policy issues surrounding electric power and utility deregulation, and served as a member of the U.S. Department of Energy Nuclear Power Task Force.
In 2024, Joe was named a Fellow of the American Nuclear Society in recognition of his visionary leadership and direct contributions to the development of methods for improving nuclear power plant performance, and for analyzing utility generating system operating strategy.
Joe held a Ph.D. degree in nuclear engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a M.S. degree in nuclear engineering from MIT, and a B.S. in nuclear engineering from Mississippi State University.
